Tomatoes are one of the most convenient plants to grow in containers and even if the only area you have is a 12 inch square on your front patio, you have adequate space for a tomato container garden. When selecting tomato plants for your containers, select strong, stocky plants to transplant into the containers. Location the tomato plants in the container, 3 or 4 per container with in between 3 to 4 inches between plants. Water the container completely, making sure the soil is soaked all the method down to the roots and below of the tomato plant. Water the containers more often than a conventional garden since container gardens will dry out more easily.
