Abstract

The use of social networks among students has spread because of low costs on information, cellular technology and the viral effect of twitter and Facebook platforms worldwide. However, there is a lack of research on students’ communicative impact. This research focuses on this option, trying to answer the question: How do college students use social media to improve communication and exchange knowledge? We collected the data from two online surveys implemented on 2010 and 2012, and compare two different samples of undergraduates: informatics graduates and business students. Our findings reveal that it was possible to observe that business students are the ones who use these platforms to share information, collaborate and interact.
