Author Guidelines

Apertura collaborators, have to comply with the following requirements when preparing their originals together with the copyright letter:

1) Nature of the work. Contributions received for eventual publication must be original and unpublished results derived from high-level academic work. The writing of the material must present textual coherence, excellent syntax, as well as congruency between the paragraphs of the text.

2) Extension and format. Present the manuscript in a digital format Word version for Windows (.doc or .docx) 1.5 spacing, Times New Roman font and 12 points. Average length between 15 and 20 pages (including abstract, bibliography, tables and figures). Do not use indentation and separate each paragraph with a blank space, text margins should be 2.5 cm. each side. Title capitalized and centered. Subtitles and other subdivisions should start with a capital and be aligned to the left. If it has tables and figures, they should be inserted in the manuscript and also be sent separated from its original format or in .jpg as “additional files”. Tables should be created in the same program of text, or if they are done in a different program, they should be sent separately and in an editable file. All figures and tables should be sequentially numbered with Arabic numerals and with a title or name. A different numbering should be used for tables and figures. Do not include attachments or appendices, if they are needed, they should be sent in a separate file.

3) Exclusivity. The works sent to Apertura must be unpublished and their authors undertake to not submit them simultaneously to the consideration of other publications through the copyright letter.

4) Publication languages. Texts will be received in Spanish, English and Portuguese.

5) Author information. The limit of co-authors is three. The number of co-authors cannot be modified once the work has been sent to the platform. It is essential that each and every one of the authors provide their standard ORCID identifier number (for more information, go to https://orcid.org/); also, indicate the institution of affiliation and country of each and every one of the authors, indicating exclusively the first-level institution, without resorting to the use of acronyms. It is suggested to use the Scielo Wayta tool to avoid the incorrect use of institution names.

6) Anonymity in the identity of the authors.  Do not include authors' names or any information that identifies them in the Word file, to ensure anonymity when the decision is made. These data are added in the article registration form to which the evaluators do not have access.

7) Text structure:

  • Title in Spanish and English (maximum 12 words). It clearly and precisely describes the work carried out.
  • Summary in Spanish and English (maximum 200 words). It must be written in the past tense and in the third person. It must be short, reflect the content of the writing and contain information regarding the objective, the methodology, the results, the limitations of the study, the report to the field of knowledge and the conclusions (findings), in that order.
  • Keywords in Spanish and English (minimum three). The concepts will accurately describe what was developed (it is recommended to use thesauri).
  • Body of the writing (with topics and subtopics). This section includes the introduction, the methodology, the results or analysis of the investigations, the discussion and the conclusions. There may be variations in the use of these items, depending on the research and the topic:

- Introduction. Includes background, hypothesis and objective of the study.

- Design / methodology / approach.

- Results. It will support the conclusion.

- Discussion. Analytically contrast the results with previous works. It is suggested that the discussion mention the limitations of the study, the strengths and the opportunities.

- Conclusions. It will define the contribution of the work, considering mentioning elements for future research. It should not include citations.

- Acknowledgments (if applicable). The supports or scholarships from which it has been possible to carry out the work are recognized.

- Bibliographic references. All citations must appear in the reference list and vice versa.

The form of citation will be as follows: the verbatim citations must be faithful, otherwise it would be a paraphrase. When the quotes are less than five lines, they must be enclosed in quotation marks. All transcription longer than five lines must be indented with five strokes, and separated from the text before and after with a blank space equivalent to one line.

In the citations of works by multiple authors, all authors are cited when there are two or three; in the case of four or five, they are all named in the first citation and, after the second, only the first author is mentioned and the abbreviation et al. is added. If the work has six or more authors, only the last name of the first author should be mentioned, followed by et al., in the first quote, as well as in the following ones.

8) Bibliographic references.  Bibliographic references go in a separate section at the end of the document. Reference will be made to all the works that have served as support for the submitted text (published or unpublished). Personal communications, as well as any other source of ideas that have influenced the text, should be mentioned as footnotes and not in the list of references. The model used in Apertura is the APA style in its latest version, with the following variants:

a) Separate the names of the authors with a semicolon when there are more than three.

b) In the references of the periodical publications include the abbreviations vol. or year and number, as appropriate.

For references of electronic works, preferably include the DOI identifier, otherwise, add the URL.
