Assessment of the 1 on 1 model in Ibero- America: the impact of laptop use in the classrooms
Keywords:
modelo 1-1, educación, aprendizaje, transformación,Abstract
In Latin America about two million students are using laptops in the framework of the Model 1 to 1 Program (one computer for every student). It is projected that by 2015 in Latin America thirty million students will be using computers. Currently, one third of the population in Latin America goes online and there is a steady growth in Internet access by the population. There have been a series of assessments of the effects of the Model 1 to 1 in education. The primary effects are referred to the increase in academic performance of students primarily in math, language and science. The results of the evaluations in this regard are not clear and convincing, so the debate is open. The secondary effects are relating to social, psychological and technological issues. In this aspect the results of evaluations are clear and conclusive. There is an effect in improving the social capital, communication, teamwork, self-esteem, creativity, thinking and abstract reasoning, problem solving, motivation to go to school, the development of ICT skills, the digital gap reduction and increased interaction between parents and children.References
